How it works

QR Code Reader: a practical guide

This QR code reader extracts the encoded text from a still image. It accepts one PNG, JPEG, or WebP image at a time and displays decoded content for review. A QR code can contain a URL, contact card, Wi-Fi details, or plain text; decoding does not verify the sender or make the content safe.

  1. STEP 01

Choose a clear image with the whole QR code visible.

  2. STEP 02

Wait for the local scan to finish; the image is limited to 8 MB and 12 megapixels.

  3. STEP 03

Read the result and copy it only after checking the contents.

What this tool does and its limits

The tool does not follow decoded links, connect to Wi-Fi, or import contact data. This keeps scanning separate from taking action on the result. Blurry, very small, partly covered, or unusually stylized codes may not decode; try a sharper image with good contrast and all corners visible.

Processing happens in your browser. The selected file or entered values are not uploaded to Got A Tool or saved by this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does the reader open a QR link?
No. It displays the decoded text only. Check the domain and context before opening any link yourself.
Which image formats are supported?
PNG, JPEG, and WebP images smaller than 8 MB, with a maximum decoded size of 12 megapixels.
Why was no QR code found?
The image may be blurry, cropped, low contrast, or contain a code too small to read at its current resolution.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Image decoding runs in your browser and the image is not sent to Got A Tool.
