JSON to XML Converter

Convert valid JSON into typed, indented XML locally without silently renaming invalid element keys.

Local conversion. JSON is parsed and converted in this browser tab. The tool does not upload, fetch, or save your source.

Use letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, or underscores. It cannot start with a number.

XML output

0 output characters

Review the XML contract. JSON strings, numbers, booleans, nulls, arrays, and objects receive explicit type attributes. Arrays use repeated item elements. Keys that are not valid XML element names are rejected rather than renamed.

Data handling

Storage and export controls

Retention
The tool's working state is kept only while this page is open. Inputs and results are not saved to persistent storage by Got A Tool.
Export
The tool may prepare a result after you run it. It downloads or copies it only when you choose that action.

Advertising and analytics are separate site services. We do not send selected tool input to them. Read the Privacy Policy for details.

How it works

Convert one JSON value into explicit XML

01

Choose a root

Name the one XML root element that will contain your JSON value.

02

Convert locally

The tool parses JSON and writes an indented XML representation in this browser tab.

03

Review before use

Copy or download the XML only after checking its root name, element keys, and type attributes.

Deliberate limits

No guessing about XML names or JSON types.

JSON keys become XML element names. XML has stricter naming rules, so this converter stops when a key cannot be represented instead of quietly changing it. It also writes an explicit type attribute for every JSON value, which makes the output easier to review before another system consumes it.

No uploads

Your JSON stays in this browser tab.

Type-aware output

Each JSON value has an explicit XML type.

Clear arrays

Array entries are repeated item elements.

No renamed keys

Invalid XML names are reported before output.

FAQ

Common questions

Why does the output include type attributes?

XML text by itself cannot distinguish a JSON string from a number, boolean, or null. The attributes make that distinction explicit for review.

Why was one of my keys rejected?

JSON permits many characters that XML element names do not. The tool reports the key instead of silently changing it.

Does this upload JSON data?

No. Parsing and conversion happen locally in your browser.
