Start with an ordinary reading-order PDF
Keep the source PDF unchanged. A booklet copy is meant for printing and folding, not ordinary screen reading or editing. If the source page order is wrong, correct that first rather than asking booklet layout to hide it.
1. Make the source ready for printing
Check that the document opens normally, pages are in reading order, and the paper size matches what you intend to print. If a page has large blank margins, that is a separate layout decision; cropping visible margins does not remove hidden content or redact a document.
Pages are in the wrong order
Put the ordinary source pages into reading order before preparing a booklet copy.
Reorder PDF pagesVisible margins need adjustment
Crop selected page margins only after you understand that cropping is a view/layout change, not a redaction method.
Crop PDF margins2. Create a dedicated booklet copy
Use a booklet creator to arrange pages for A4 or Letter paper. The result changes the page layout and sequence for folded sheets; it does not rewrite the content you wrote on each original page.
Create the print-layout copy
PDF Booklet Creator arranges an unlocked PDF into booklet order for A4 or Letter paper. Review the produced copy before you send it to a printer.
3. Check page order in the finished copy
The first printed sheet can look surprising because the cover and last page share a sheet. That is normal for a booklet. Confirm the result by imagining the fold, or print a low-cost test sheet and fold it before using the full document.
- Check the front cover, the first inside spread, and the final page.
- Confirm page numbers read in order after the paper is folded.
- Use the printer's preview for its own paper, duplex, and binding choices.
4. Print one test sheet before the full run
Printer drivers vary, especially for two-sided printing and paper orientation. A test sheet is the fastest way to catch an upside-down back side, a printer scaling choice, or a binding direction that does not match your paper fold.
Do not assume every printer uses the same duplex setting. Follow the printer preview and its documented paper-feed guidance for the exact device you are using.
Keep the source and the print copy distinct
Save the booklet PDF with a clear name. That leaves the original reading-order document available for screen sharing, editing, or a different printer workflow later.
Common questions
Why is the last page next to the first page in a booklet PDF?
Booklet order is arranged for folded sheets, so outside and inside pages are paired differently from ordinary reading order. Check the folded test sheet rather than judging the first spread by screen order alone.
Can I use a booklet PDF as my ordinary reading copy?
You can open it, but it is arranged for printing and folding. Keep the original reading-order PDF for normal viewing, editing, or sharing.
Will a booklet tool configure my printer?
No. It prepares the PDF layout. Paper feed, duplex settings, scaling, and binding direction remain choices in your printer software and should be checked in its preview.
