How it works
GPA Calculator: a practical guide
A GPA calculator combines course grades and credit hours into one credit-weighted grade point average. This version shows its 4.0 letter-grade scale directly, so it does not guess how your school assigns grade values.
- STEP 01
Add each course you want to include, up to 20 courses.
- STEP 02
Enter its credit hours and choose its grade from the displayed 4.0 scale.
- STEP 03
Review the weighted GPA, total credits, and quality points, then compare them with your school's published policy.
What this tool does and its limits
The calculator multiplies each grade point by its credit hours, adds those quality points, then divides by total credit hours. The displayed scale maps A to 4.0, A− to 3.7, B+ to 3.3, B to 3.0, through F at 0.0. It does not apply school-specific plus/minus values, honors or AP weighting, repeated-course replacement, withdrawals, transfer-credit rules, pass/fail courses, or official rounding.
Inputs, selected files, and results stay in your browser. The tool does not upload them to Got A Tool or save them to persistent storage.
Questions
GPA Calculator details
Is this an official GPA?
No. It is a transparent estimate based on the displayed grade values and your entered credits. Your school's registrar or transcript is the source for an official GPA.
Can I use a different grading scale?
This version intentionally uses only the shown 4.0 letter-grade scale. Do not substitute a different school's values without first converting them according to that school's policy.
Why does a higher-credit course affect the result more?
The calculation is credit-weighted: a course with more credit hours contributes more quality points and therefore has more effect on the GPA.
Does this calculate weighted honors or AP GPA?
No. Schools use different added weights and eligibility rules. This tool does not guess them.
