Count weekdays between two dates or add and subtract business days without silently assuming holiday calendars.

For a count between dates, the end date is excluded. For example, Monday through the following Monday is five business days.

How it works

Business Days Calculator: a practical guide

A business days calculator counts Monday through Friday dates between two calendar dates or moves a date forward and backward by a chosen number of weekdays. It is useful for estimating a simple workday deadline without turning date arithmetic into a time-zone problem.

  1. STEP 01

Choose whether to count between dates or add and subtract business days.

  2. STEP 02

Enter valid calendar dates or a whole-number business-day offset.

  3. STEP 03

Review the result and account separately for any public holidays or workplace closures.

What this tool does and its limits

This tool treats Saturday and Sunday as non-business days and every Monday through Friday as a business day. For a count between dates, the start date is included when it is a weekday and the end date is excluded: Monday through the following Monday is five business days. Public holidays, regional working weeks, company shutdowns, half-days, and time of day are not known to the tool and are never guessed.

Inputs, selected files, and results stay in your browser. The tool does not upload them to Got A Tool or save them to persistent storage.

Questions

Business Days Calculator details

Does this include public holidays?

No. It excludes only Saturday and Sunday. Add holidays, company closure days, and local work-week rules yourself.

Are both dates counted?

No. The count starts at the first date and stops before the end date. This matches the example of Monday through the following Monday being five business days.

Can I subtract business days?

Yes. Enter a negative whole-number offset to move backward while skipping weekends.

Why does this use dates rather than times?

A date-only calculation avoids daylight-saving and time-zone changes affecting the answer. It does not calculate hours within a workday.
