How it works

Turn QIF transactions into reviewable CSV files

01

Choose a QIF file

Load one bank, cash, or credit-card QIF file from your device. It is read in this browser only.

02

Set the date order

Choose MM/DD or DD/MM for slash dates. ISO dates keep their written order, so ambiguous dates are never guessed.

03

Review separate outputs

Download ready transactions, split details, and records needing attention as separate CSV files in one ZIP.

Example

Keep split transactions connected to their total.

A QIF transaction can have one posted total and several category splits. The transactions CSV keeps the original total. A separate splits CSV lists every category, memo, and split amount with the parent transaction's source line, date, and payee.

What needs review

Records with a missing end marker, unreadable date or amount, incomplete split, unsupported field, or unsupported account type are kept out of the ready CSV. Their original QIF record and source lines are included in the review CSV.

Questions

QIF conversion questions

Which QIF account types are supported?

This version converts Bank, Cash, and CCard transaction sections. Investment and other unsupported QIF sections are identified in the review file rather than being silently skipped.

How are two-digit years interpreted?

For QIF slash dates, 00 through 69 mean 2000 through 2069 and 70 through 99 mean 1970 through 1999. Check the downloaded dates before importing them into a finance app.

Does the tool reconcile against my bank balance?

No. It totals the readable transaction amounts in the file so you can compare them with your source statement, but it does not connect to your bank or independently verify a balance.

What happens to split transactions?

The parent transaction remains in transactions.csv. Each readable split gets its own row in splits.csv. An incomplete split makes that entire transaction a review item so no partial category breakdown is exported.

Is my financial file uploaded?

No. Reading, review, conversion, and ZIP creation happen locally in your browser. Got A Tool does not receive or store the QIF file.
