How it works

Password Generator: a practical guide

A password generator is useful when a new account needs a unique value that is difficult to guess. This tool uses the Web Crypto API for random bytes, avoids visually similar characters by default, and lets you select the character groups required by a service. It does not estimate or promise that a password is unbreakable: account security also depends on unique reuse, secure storage, and multi-factor authentication.

  1. STEP 01

Choose a length from 8 to 64 characters.

  2. STEP 02

Select one or more character groups that the destination accepts.

  3. STEP 03

Generate, copy, and store the result in a trusted password manager.

What this tool does and its limits

At least one character from each selected group is included, then the password characters are shuffled with secure browser randomness. Symbols and lookalike exclusions can affect whether a particular website accepts a result. If generation or clipboard access is unavailable, the tool reports that instead of sending the value elsewhere.

Processing happens in your browser. The selected file or entered values are not uploaded to Got A Tool or saved by this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is the generated password uploaded?
No. Generation takes place in the browser. A generated value appears on screen and can remain in browser memory until the page is closed.
Can this guarantee account security?
No. Use a different password for each service, save it with a trusted password manager, and enable multi-factor authentication where available.
Why are some characters missing?
Ambiguous characters such as zero, capital O, one, and lowercase l are omitted to make manual reading easier.
What if a website rejects a symbol?
Turn off the symbols group and generate a new password. Do not reuse a password from another account.
